DADZ

Today is DADZ's 60th birthday! I know, he doesn't look a day over 59. Make sure to leave him a birthday message in the comments section; naturally, COMMENTS SHOULD BE WRITTEN IN ALL CAPS, AS A TRIBUTE TO DADZ "I DON'T LIKE TO PRESS 'SHIFT'" LEIBTAG.

Anyway, in honor of 60 years, here are 60 things we love about DADZ:

1. He sends us magazines.

2. He's funny.

3. He's unintentionally funny, which is even funnier.

4. He plays Chutes and Ladders with Yaakov.

5. He's not afraid to admit when he is wrong. For example, growing up, we were never allowed to get cable because, in Dadz's words, "Cable is crap." Now that the children have left home, the 'rents have the most cabley cable you can imagine. Every show that is on the air, including "Xtreme Toenail Clipping" is available for Momz and Dadz's viewing pleasure. Dadz admitted to me, "I made a mistake. It's not cable that's crap. It's network television that's crap."
I would like a redo of my childhood. Well, not the gelled hair and red glasses. Just the TV-watching segments.

6. He loves his in-law children. To the point that sometimes I feel like I'm the one who married into the family.

7. He's always game for an outing - water park, hike, even food shopping is an adventure with Dadz.

8. He thoroughly enjoys showing off about his kids and grandkids. It's very cute.

9. He can nap Nadav under the table. He could probably nap under the table, too.

60. He always makes sure to call us. Even if he has nothing to talk about. He just likes to say hey.

Wow, we made it to 60! Amazing! And we could keep going, too!

So Dadz, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

WITH LOVE, THE STAFF OF ALIYAHBYACCIDENT

Me! Me! Call on me! I have some!
yes, Momz?

Ok, here's some more

1. He still calls Momz "essie-poo" an endearment which started in their college dating days.

2. He calls her "essie poo" in front of total strangers which makes Momz give him dirty looks.

3. He makes dumb jokes and Momz still laughs at them, which causes him to say, "see, she still laughs at my jokes, that's love."

4. He loves his "robe of dirt" and proudly displays it when he stays at his chldren's homes.

5. He names his jackets.

6. "Little Green" is his favorite jacket.

7. he holds the record for the best Baltimore accent in the family.

8. He has the most eclectic taste in reading of anyone in the universe.

9. He learns a heck of a lot.

10. He learns even tho Momz often says (no Mrs. Rabbi Akiva, she): Are you learning again?

that's it...for now....oh, there is just so much material...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADZ. I'M ASSUMING GILA LEARNED HER PARENTING SKILLS FROM YOU (AND MOMZ, OF COURSE); YOU BOTH ARE PROBABLY SO PROUD.

[stopping to shout now] May you have many more years of good health, and of reading all about your kid's and grandkid's foibles on the internet.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADZ! OR, AS YAAKOV SAID TO ME YESTERDAY: "ZEYDE IS BIGGER THAN YOU."

I know, I know, it was late and I was getting tired. That's what happened after #10. Oooh! Oooh! Blame it on Nadav!

Momz, excellent additions. Though I can't believe you're exposing his robe of dirt to public readership.

I should also add he's excellent at holding small babies while learning, though he does fear they will fall through the crook in his elbow. So far, none have.

He also chooses excellent presents for the kiddies. Yaakov's "Zaidy shirt" and "Zaidy car" are 2 of his favorites. Zaidy car in particular has been through a lot and yet still drives with enthusiasm. Kind of like Dadz, actually.

WISHING A HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GILA'S DADZ!

My Dad had a "robe of dirt" too!!! Although we didn't think of such an apt name for it. He wore it proudly as well until it disappeared. Mysteriously.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GILA'S DADZ! IF LOYAL READERS CONTINUE TO SHARE THEIR COMMENTS, YOU MAY REACH THE SIXTY. HERE ARE MY TWO:

1) HIS AFFINITY FOR PESACH CANDY.
2) HIS AFFINITY FOR TODDLERS AGES ONE TO TWO WHO ARE NOT EVEN RELATED TO HIM. (EVEN IF IT'S JUST TO GET THEM TO SHARE THEIR WHOLE MILK FOR HIS COFFEE.)

YOM HULEDET SAMEACH!

Kathleen - there's money in it for you if you can make Dadz's ROD disappear as well....

Risa - good additions. Pesach candy and taking milk from babies - that's our DADZ!

Risa said...

I guess that's better than taking candy from babies and using milk on Pesach (for the Seder).

HAPPY 60TH BIRTHDAY DADZ SHEL GILA!

Aw.

Now that he's sixty, your father cannot be subject to karet. Forget milk at the seder, try chametz!

gils,

thanks for the special b/d blog.

to all loyal readers: i requested it. also, thank you all for your comments and wishes.

gils,
you have another year to come up with the rest - i'll let you off, you don't have to do 61.

speaking of r.o.d. - it does go to the cleaners a few times a year!

finally, not hitting "shift" works both ways
